Graphic Orginizer

Graphic organizers are very useful not only for teachers but also for students. As demonstrated above a teacher could plan their lesson plan using this. Plan a different topic for each day. Or a student could use it to plan out their essays. I see a lot of value in graphic organizers. Essays, lesson plans, book plots, characters, or any thing else. Or a teacher could use it to divide the class according to groups based on a student's individual strength.

Question

Are tests the best way to measure learning?

When I think about this question I think about many things. One of the things I think about are the students who cram and cram for a test the night before or the morning of. In my opinion these students haven't learned anything.  I know that a rarely remember tests that are multiple choice, or short answer. As much as I dislike to say it the tests that I remember the best are essay questions. I think the reason for this is because I have to plan it out several times, I have to think about the different outcomes and choose which is the best option. Another reason for this is because I remember the "stories" that have lead up to these essay questions.

Blabberize

The nice thing about blabberizer is that students can write a speech on given topic and instead of preforming it in public. One thing that I like about the blabberizer is that students can have fun with the program and experiment with different faces as well as be educational. Let's face it kids are more likely to learn something from a talking dog than they are with a teacher right in front of them because they will find it funnier.

My Studiyo

This is an interesting tool that kids can use in a classroom both by creating a quiz themselves or by taking a quiz that their teacher provides. The availability of this program would allow students to create their own quiz using images. This program would also be nice because the students could watch something that would give them the information before they answer the quiz question.

Gliffy

Using Gliffy I created a home. This is an excellent teaching tool because students can create different dimension of things. Students could design their own home using geometry.  For a home decorating class students could use the the designs to rearrange a room. As you can see here I did a very basic two bedroom house design. However Students could also create a flow chart or a Venn Diagram

Can you tell the story?

Surveys and Rubrics

As a future teacher I see many uses for a survey process, recently I surveyed several members of my class. I asked questions about their childhood, and where they grew up, who influenced them. My survey started out as only 4 questions and then once I realized I had one more question to ask it was to late, most of my classmates had already taken the survey so the results are a little missed up. What I found with my survey is almost exactly what I suspected. Even us future teachers would sometimes rather go to school for friends rather than for what we learn. This is something that can be used in the future as educators to learn how we can change things, or how we can use them for a proper learning experience. What was your favorite thing about School? Why would you like to be a teacher?
Along with the assignment to create a survey I was also given the assignment to create a rubric. I love history and so I created a mock rubric using rubistar.4teachers.org. This rubric is just a sample but could be useful for future classes that I would teach.

Learning Syle Reflection

I have taken many different things to see the styles that I learn best and more often that not the results show that I learn best through a variety of means.  It was interesting when I was taking both of these tests I had a hard time deciding which answer was most applicable to me. It appears that I learn in many ways; kinaesthetic, linguistic, logic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. When I look at the results for both of these tests I see that I do have some weaknesses, one of the things that I personally struggle with, and will continue to struggle with is music. I love to listen to it, and to experience but that is not how I learn best.
I believe that because I learn so many different ways, that I will be able to influence students on their level. I have a balance of things unlike most people. As a teacher this will either help me or adversely affect me. I will ether be trying to fit everything together at once and lose track of what I am trying to teach or I will be able to teach each student on their own level.

Why I want to be a teacher

Ever since I was a preteen I have loved working with kids. When I was twelve I ran my own childcare program for a week because there was no one else who was willing to do it. One morning as my mom and I were driving supplies over we got to talking about how teachers are always needed in mission schools (such as the boarding school I would later attend).
I experienced a world where there were 42 students to every one teacher. I don't want to see students go through that. I also believe that teachers need to be assessable for their students and if I end up teaching overseas then I have a better connection with the students because I know what it is like to go through the same things as them.
